Ken Davis To Speak In Tolland | Hartford Courant Alumni ...

TOLLAND ? Fans of the UConn men?s basketball team won?t want to miss a visit to the Tolland Public Library Dec. 10 by FOXSportsNEXT.com?s national basketball writer, Ken Davis.

Davis, an award-winning sportswriter from Coventry, is the author of ?The University of Connecticut Basketball Vault,? a history of the Huskies from 1901 through 2010. The interactive scrapbook includes never-before-published photos, artwork and replica memorabilia covering UConn players from Louis Alexander to Kemba Walker.

He will speak and sign copies of his book at 7 p.m. at the library at 21 Tolland Green when the Tolland Public Library Foundation launches its third season of the popular Eaton-Dimock-King Authors Series. His appearance is also part of the Foundation?s Year of the Young Adult initiative.

Davis spent 12 years as the UConn men?s basketball beat writer at The Hartford Courant, followed by eight years as The Courant?s national college writer. He previously covered college basketball at Kansas, Syracuse and Maryland.

Since leaving the Courant in 2005, he has written for numerous publications, including The Sporting News, USA Today, ESPN The Magazine and Sports Illustrated. He is also the publisher and lead writer of UConnPlaybook.com.

Davis is an 11-time winner in the U.S. Basketball Writers Association writing contest and has been honored six times by the Associated Press Sports Editors.

The series, funded by the Phoebe Dimock King and Elizabeth C. King Eaton Endowment, has previously brought writers Denis Horgan, Susan Schoenberger, Jeff Goldberg, Lucy Anne Hurston, Jane Haddam and P.W. Catanese to town.

About the Year of the Young Adult
This initiative by the Foundation is aimed at bringing programs and materials to the library that will be of interest to children aged 11 to 18. Year of the Young Adult events in the past year have included workshops on college admissions and financial aid; visits by authors and an astronomer; a poetry slam and a book club on ?The Hunger Games? trilogy.
