Hosting an at-home spa party is perfect for a relaxing, budget-friendly bridal luncheon or bachelorette party.? Spending time with the girls is good for your mental health!? Plus, a relaxed bride is a beautiful bride.
A bride can plan this herself, or the maid of honor can.? You can do this for the wedding, or for no reason other than girl time.
Here?s what you?ll need:
- Single-use mud masks ? from Garden Apothecary ($3 each; save 15% with promo code: LOVEFALL)
- Nail polish, nail polish remover (provide a variety of colors, or whatever color you want your bridesmaids to wear)
- Manicure supplies (cuticle remover, cuticle oil, hand scrub, nail file, nail clippers) ? Check Bath and Body Works? True Blue Spa Perfect Mani Set ($25)
- Beverages (alcoholic and non-alcoholic)
- Main dish or finger foods you can prepare in advance
- Gift
Other suggestions:
- Foot spa/massager
- Paraffin wax
So, most of us know how awesome Pinterest is for ideas.? I suggest checking out Pinterest for your beverage and food recipes, and gift ideas.? You can even find some amazing nail polish tutorials on Pinterest.? If you haven?t been to Pinterest yet, it?s like inspiration overload.? And almost everything has a tutorial.
For my spa party, we did DIY facials, manicures, and pedicures.? I made a huge batch of chickpea salad, and served an apple cider cocktail (and water, of course).? At the end of the party, I served peppermint mochas and peppermint bark ? a real treat!? All my friends took home a brown sugar body scrub we made during the party.
What to do:
When everyone arrives, have cocktails and food ready.? Just mingle for a while before you start getting busy with your DIY spa day.? If serving a meal, allow enough time for everyone to eat.
Facial: Once your friends are ready to get started, begin with the facials (FYI ? tell your friends to come without makeup and dressed in comfy clothes!).? Take the single use mud mask and mix with 2-4 tsp water for a smooth, thick consistency.? Apply the mask with your hands to all parts of the face, avoiding the eyes.? That?s it!? Let the mask dry before washing off.? It will rinse off easily with water.
Bonus: The mud masks I used double as a face scrub when mixed with honey instead of water, and that makes a nice treatment for the next day!
Manicure/Pedicure: While the mud masks are drying, guests can start on their manicure.? Set up a station where everyone can share the supplies without being too crowded.? Sitting around a coffee table or kitchen table is perfect.? Here?s how to do the manicure:
- Wash hands with soap or sugar scrub
- While cuticles are still soft, remove them with cuticle removing tool
- Clip nails with nail clipper to desired length and shape
- File nails so edges and surfaces are smooth
*At this point, it?s probably time to wash off the mud mask, and get a drink refill!*
- Paint nails (base coat, 2-3 coats of color, followed by top coat, allowing to dry completely between each coat of paint)
- Once nails are dry, apply hand lotion, and wah-laa!? Beautiful hands.
Dessert: Once everyone is done with facials and manicures, it?s time to serve dessert!? Be sure to include chocolate!
Gifts: End the party by giving everyone a gift to take home.? This is a perfect time to hand out bridesmaids gifts, and tell everyone how beautiful they look!? For my guests, we made homemade sugar scrubs with brown sugar, honey, and olive oil. We each made our own to keep in a recycled baby food jar. ?Find tons of great recipes for homemade scrubs from Erika Katz, Bonding Over Beauty. ?You could also put together a manicure kit in a mason jar for each guest, or buy extra mud masks or manicure kits for everyone.
Hosting an at-home spa party is a lot of fun and easy on the budget.? You can send invitations by mail, email, facebook, etc.? I think this works best with a small group of girls, but it can work for any size if you have enough space and supplies.
I really like this idea for the couple who is having a destination wedding without bridesmaids and groomsmen.? Before you leave for your amazing wedding destination, gather up your closest girl friends for some DIY pampering.? Do each other?s nails, soak your feet, and share some yummy cocktails and munchies while you gab.
Remember to take photos!? And, if you?d like to share your spa party photos, please let us know!? We?d love to see them.
