What Are Weightlifting Chalks And How To Use Them_SH Health tips ...

During weightlifting one of the most critical factors is the grip strength. A loose grip on the bar might not let the weightlifter lift the bar properly. The reason for the loose grip could be because of sweaty hands that can significantly scale down the grip strength. Therefore, in order to avoid such situations, more and more weightlifters are using weightlifting or gym chalks. A gym chalk when applied on the palms works as a drying agent by absorbing the sweat completely, giving the weightlifter a chance to get a strong grip on the bar. The gym chalk used is not only limited to weightlifting but it is widely used in other sports like athletics, gymnastics and rock climbing, where also everything depends on one?s grip.

The advantage of using gym chalks is that there are less cuts and tears on the hands and the skin becomes more resilient. Also, with a better grip, the pain of lifting the bars is quite subdued and the dry and hard feeling is significantly reduced.

One might have noticed weightlifters rubbing chalk on their hands or their leather grips during weightlifting competitions. Knowledge about how to use the chalk intelligently gives them an advantage to perform well in competitions.

Some of the proper techniques to use the weight lifting chalk are:

1. One should use the chalk bucket in order to scoop up some chalk that is required to be rubbed thoroughly on the hand. By properly chalking up one can lift the weight equipment easily and also avoid the resultant rips and tears on the skin.

2. One is recommended to rub the chalk on the hands, in-between the fingers and also on the grips. This would help to improve the grip strength. Moreover, one should chalk up the hands in the dome shaped chalk holder so as to avoid any wastage or mess.

3. Prior to lifting the bar, one should blow gently on both hands and grip so as to remove excess chalk. Proper amount of chalk applied on the hand can reduce friction, however with too much chalk on the hand; the gymnast might find it difficult to maintain a strong grip.

Once the weight lifting session is over, one should remember to remove the chalk from the equipment with a dry cloth. Also, a chalk brush should be used to clean the leather grips to prevent a build up of chalk on the leather. Any excess chalk left behind on the leather can damage the leather grip in the long run.

A lot of gym facilities bar the use of chalk in their premises because of the mess they make. Also, it becomes difficult to clean it from the equipment. However, the new kinds of chalks that are available in the market today do not have this limitation. There are the unique chalk balls that produce very less dust compared to loose chalk and more importantly, they last longer as well. They are the ideal solution for strong hand grips, an essential factor in many sports. So, if one wants to get proper grip while weightlifting or rock climbing or gymnastics, these gym chalk balls can be of great help.
