A conference on cancer has revealed amazing breakthroughs in the fight against breast cancer, including news that a patient?s own immune system may be boosted to fight the disease, word of a new drug that may actually slow down its growth, and the FDA?s announcement that they may start fast-tracking experimental drugs and get them to patients in dire need.
Dr. Marc Siegel, part of Fox?s Medical A-Team, weighed in on today?s Happening Now. Despite this news, Siegel said doctors are also learning that there will be a 75 percent increase in cancer in the US by 2030.
Siegel stressed that the biggest problem in the US is obesity and said that it?s leading to more and more instances of cancer. He added that breast cancer and colon cancer are the two kinds of cancer most commonly linked to obesity.
He said, ?We can talk about all these wonderful new discoveries. People, under the microscope, are finding great things out about how to cure cancer. The best thing would be not to get it in the first place by altering lifestyle.?
