EU Ambassadors prepare lunch using Solar Energy

June 18, "European Village", Kyiv: EU Ambassadors and Ukrainian officials will personally demonstrate how to cook lunch using solar energy, how to generate electricity while biking and learn to determine the time by the sun. In this original way the Head of the EU Delegation to Ukraine, Ambassadors of the EU Member States and Head of Kiev city state administration will open the "European Sustainable Energy Week".

18-23 June, "European Sustainable Energy Days" are celebrated in Ukraine and all over Europe. The "European Village" proposes a colorful, informative and interactive programme for children, students, and all thoses interested in learning how to save energy ? and costs ? in their daily lives.

Who?Jose Manuel Pinto Teixeira, Head of EU Delegation to Ukraine; Hans-J?rgen Heimsoeth, Ambassador of Germany; Ar'ya Makkonen, Ambassador of Finland; Henryk Litwin, Ambassador of Poland; Wolf Dietrich Heim, Ambassador of Austria; Oleksandr Mazurchak, First Deputy Head of Kyiv City State Administration; Mykola Pashkevych, Head of National Agency of Ukraine on Ensuring of Efficient Use of Energy Resources as well as other EU diplomats and Ukrainian officials.

The official opening ceremony will be followed by a tour of the "Energy House," and a press briefing, during which journalists will have the opportunity to ask questions to the speakers, and to a representative of GIZ. During the six Energy Days in the "European Village", all are welcome to visit and participate in our Energy events, such as games and competitions, interactive exhibits and presentations, seminars, conferences and round tables on the topic of sustainable energy. A detailed programme is attached.

EU Sustainable Energy Week is world-wide event, which took place for the first in Ukraine in 2011. Every year hundreds of organisations and individuals participate in the Energy Week by hosting events and activities that promote energy efficiency and renewable energy sources.

The European Village is a German-Ukrainian initiative in partnership with the European Union and the City of Kyiv. Presenting Ukraine and Europe in an interactive and entertaining way, the European Village 2012 will show-case and new initiatives of international cooperation for development and strengthen Ukrainian-European cooperation. We therefore hope to improve the image of Ukraine and Kyiv abroad and to present a colorful, diverse and exciting country.
