Surrounded by the energetic swirl of cards, boxes of chocolates and co-workers making romantic dinner plans during the month of February, any divorced woman -- no matter how self-confident -- could easily fall into a vat of misery, feeling like a leper of love, living on an island of one.
Rather than locking yourself away on Valentine's Day in your bathrobe and a series of bad chick flicks, or worse, putting on your game face and pretending like you are totally "fine," empower yourself to use this February 14th as a time to infuse more love into your life. All women, no matter how beautiful, successful or confident need, want and deserve love in their lives... and there is no rule that says love can only come from a husband or a lover! In fact, with some planning and new perspectives, you'll find that all the love you could want is only a heartbeat away.
1. Change your viewpoint on Valentines Day. Make it a day of Love, not just romantic love. Remember being in second grade when you would go to the store, get a full box of 24 themed Valentines, and give one to every kid in your class? You didn't just give one to the boy you had a crush on, everyone got Valentines. Children get it. Feb 14th is a day about love, about loving everyone! So buck the adult rules and make this Valentines Day what it's really about, giving sentiments of love to everyone in your life.
2. Radiate Love! Give love away on that day. One of the reasons women feel lonely on Feb 14th is because they are waiting to receive love from someone else first. But that is backwards! The love we receive starts with how much love we radiate first from inside ourselves. Make the choice to radiate love on this day. Literally, be love. Give it to everyone you encounter. From the barista to the cabbie, be a walking energy ball of love. And to take it up a notch, make plans to formally give love away on that day by volunteering in some way that allows you to give to others. Spending the day giving to animals, children, the elderly or the less fortunate will skyrocket your love waves through the roof!
3. Celebrate Self-Love Day on Feb 13th. It's no secret that you must love yourself before you can truly love anyone else, yet few of us really do love ourselves, or even know what that means. Luckily, the day before Valentines Day is the international day of self-love, Madly in Love with ME? Day -- a day dedicated to you being your own best friend. On this day, make a self-love promise to yourself that you'll keep all year long and throw a self-love party, for 2, 22 or just you! 4. Make it a ME day. Spend the entire day with yourself treating yourself like this mythos of the perfect husband/lover/companion/partner would treat you. Give yourself breakfast in bed. Buy yourself flowers. Spend the day at a spa. Take yourself to a spendy dinner dressed to the nines, looking and feeling hot. End the evening warm and cozy in your bed with a self-love serenade, telling yourself of all the reasons you love you.
