Investigation into Texas prosecutor slayings quickens its pace

(Reuters) - The investigation into the shooting deaths of two Texas prosecutors continued on Sunday, following the arrest of a former justice of the peace whose home was searched during a probe into the slayings.

Residents of Kaufman, Texas, and local media have been buzzing over the arrest of Eric L. Williams, 46, who was booked into jail on Saturday on a charge of making a "terroristic" threat, which generally involves a threat to commit violence.

Authorities in Texas have not said whether the alleged threat had any connection to the slayings and Williams has not been named as a suspect in the killings of the local district attorney, his wife and a prosecutor.

But Williams' arrest comes as the investigation into the killings appears to have quickened its pace in recent days.

Police searched Williams' home in Kaufman on Friday, officials said. And on Saturday local media reported that FBI agents and Texas Rangers had searched several storage units in the town of Seagoville.

Williams, who a jail official confirmed was being held on $3 million bail, has not been named as a suspect in the slayings. He lost his position as justice of the peace in Kaufman County after being convicted last year of theft, according to local media reports.

Williams' attorney, David Sergi, declined through a representative to comment on his latest arrest.
