Boater drowns in Jackson County - WDAM.COM - TV 7 - News ...

JACKSON COUNTY, MS (WLOX) -

The body of?a Jackson County man was pulled from an area bayou.?

According to Jackson County Sheriff Mike Byrd,38-year-old Gene Tanner left the Little River Marina in Escatawpa by boat shortly after 2:30?Saturday morning.? He was headed back to his house boat, which was docked on the Poticaw Bayou in Vancleave.

A friend went to check on him Saturday afternoon, and discovered he never made it home.

Jackson County Sheriff's deputies began searching the rivers around noon, and Tanner's body was discovered around 6:00 pm.

Authorities believe Tanner's vessel hit a log and he was thrown overboard about 30 minutes after leaving the marina.? Investigators say alcohol may have been a factor in the death.? An autopsy is still pending to help determine how Tanner died.
