The School of Music Kicked Off at New C3 Performing Arts Center

Students receive piano lesson from Cindy Wolmarans in one of the new classrooms at the C3 Performing Arts Center.

From its brand new facilities, C3 Performing Arts Center launched its inaugural School of Music program on Tuesday, March 27. A different kind of music program, the School of Music is a free eight-week instructional program where students of all ages can choose to take lessons for guitar, bass, piano, drums, flute or voice taught by professional musicians.

With the exception of a one-time $20 registration fee, the lessons are free. A student recital will culminate at the end of the eight weeks and friends and family will be invited to attend the showcase at the Performing Arts Center.

?The School of Music is such an amazing program and there really is nothing like it in San Diego,? said David Higgins, C3 PAC founder. ?Professional musicians from around San Diego are volunteering their time to teach what they are most passionate about in hopes to carry on the gift of music and the arts.?

Instead of focusing on one form of art, C3 PAC encompasses every step and aspect of the world of creativity and expression. In addition to its 400-seat theater, the building offers a cafe, bookstore, lesson rooms for drums, piano and guitar with all equipment already in-house, a dance studio, recording studio, media arts classroom, nursery, an entertainment and game area, and a room designated for jam sessions.

?With so many schools no longer able to provide music and art classes, there is a true need for a place like C3 PAC that encourages artistic expression,? said Higgins. ?We are excited to not only grow our presence in the community but also provide a place that inspires and helps spread creativity all throughout the greater San Diego area.?

At the end of the School of Music, students will have the opportunity to continue with the C3 PAC?s Build-a-Band program where they will get to write and record their own music with a band made of students from the School.
Opened in February, C3 PAC has affordable prices for renting performance space and music lessons, and, with all that it provides for budding, hopeful and established artists, this facility stands alone in the city of San Diego. In addition to the School of Music, C3 PAC will host a myriad of events and offers space for private teachers, freelance artists and community organizations to rent, create and share.
