(Taken from a transcript of Nicola?s weekly Mastermind & Client Q&A Call hosted every Wednesday at 6pm)
I must confess I did feel really strange this Wednesday morning when I didn?t have an eleven o?clock webinar on a Wednesday for the first time in about 12 years.? We?ve been doing them since the early days of The Money Gym, and that was one of the times on a Wednesday I?ve always had one.? So it did feel very odd. ?
But I launched the new format Wednesday webinar this week and it seems to suit my clients better, some struggled to attend the day time calls. ?The new format of the webinar is that I?m going to run through some things I think you need to know about ? what?s been important this week including, this week, a review of The Reluctant Entrepreneur by Michael Masterson ? and then we?re going to go straight into the Mastermind Session, and I see we?ve got a couple of Mastermind regulars on the line already.? I?m sure as the call gets underway, we?ll be joined by some more. ?
After the Mastermind part of the call, which is all about accountability and strategic planning ? what you?ve done, what?s been a challenge, what you succeeded with, what you really feel good about, what you need help with for next week ? then we?ll go through the general Q&A?s and that will last as long as there are questions.?
As we go forward, I?m not sure how long each section will last, that will depend on how many turn up for each part but I?m hoping the times will settle as people come and go.? But I suppose it will always depend on who is on the line.? I can?t be in charge of that, but I am committed to being here from six o?clock on a Wednesday right through to the last question.
Let?s get started with some of the stuff I?ve come across this week. I am learning so much new stuff about how to grow a new business, it?s blowing my mind.?
First of all I?m learning how to use Basecamp which is an awesome tool for managing projects and tasks.?? but we are also using Google Calendars, Google Documents within Google Drive ? Google Drive is a free ? app I suppose you would call it ? you download which enables you ? and your work colleagues ? to access all your Google documents in one easy-to-see sort of place.
The good thing about Google Documents is that several people can access and even work on a document at the same time ? you can even watch their curser moving!!? It stops you having to upload, download and all that business. ?
Outsourcing Revelations
I?ve never really done much outsourcing before ? and I?m really kicking myself that I haven?t ? but I?m coming up-to-speed with it very quickly.? I?m having the most success with Elance ? ?The Human Cloud? ? so far.? I haven?t experimented with Odesk yet.? I think Odesk is more for technical people although there are plenty of those on Elance too. ?
Elance has a great range of people across the board, and we?ve found some fantastic people on there.? We?ve found a guy who does amazing techie stuff.? He?s in Pakistan, you have to be very specific with him but he is highly techie if you know what you want and you?re not looking for any sort of independent design input or anything like that.? You tell him what you want doing techie-wise and he does a great job.
I?ve found a fantastic graphic designer, so good I can?t believe it. ?Given the quality of his portfolio, he gave me one of the most competitive quotes for creating an online magazine which made me even more astonished when he turned up to be from Brighton, so that was really odd, even more so that he used to live in Shoreham where I live now. ?In fact it was weirder than that, he lives in the road where my favourite jazz venue is located and I was going there that very night! ?That?s really very strange to meet someone online who could be anywhere in the world but is actually just down the road from you.. ?
I?ve recently found a couple of overseas superstars, one from the Philippines and one from Portugal, with written english better than mine, plenty of initiative and the time zone thing is not an issue, having daily meetings by Skype to organise workload.
I?m using Craigslist Manila too.? You log in to your Craigslist account and then you just go and put in Manila as a country, and you can post just job description out there.? You get a lot of rubbish replies as people pay people to reply to everything for them, but one of the tricks I?ve learned from Neil is that, if you put in a few questions that unless they reply properly to the question then you just totally ignore their application really.? If they can?t be bothered to read your job description properly then they?re not the right person.? It really gives you a sense of how intelligent and well-educated and willing to work people are around the world. ?
Digital Marketing Insider Launches
Coming back to our graphic design thing, the reason I needed a graphic designer was because we wanted to create a magazine every month of our best blog posts at ROARlocal, the new magazine?s name is Digital Marketing Insider.? So, this is what we have come up with.? I knew I wanted it to look really modern and have pictures of Brighton, but moody kind of pictures.? I wanted to be really proud of it.? He?s come up with this amazing thing here. You can see that it looks like a magazine. ?
It?s created as a PDF and then uploaded to Issuu.com.? You click on it and it takes you through to a page on our website where the code is embedded.? You can see that it really does look quite impressive especially when you click expand.? All you have to do is click the slider up the top and then it gets bigger.? Because he?s done it in magazine format, you can just move around.? It?s so cool.? You just click that and it turns the pages.? These are blog posts that Matt?s taken and created a template first of all and he?s just going to drop in the new blog post each month. ?
My article ?7 Habits of Highly Effective Media Marketers? is in there.? At the end of the page you?ve got all your social media and all live links so anyone can just go and click on them. ?
I would strongly encourage you, even if it?s not such a beautifully laid out thing as this, to think about taking a few of your best blog posts every month and getting them turned into a PDF and uploaded to Issuu.com. ? It?s another arena where you can leverage your content to create a new traffic source with not very much extra work.
Just to show you what a normal PDF looks like, that wasn?t even particularly sexy in terms of graphic design, here?s my report ?How To Market ANY Business Online?.? I just started uploading my existing PDF?s just to see what it look like.?? You can embed the code anywhere, for example on your report Thank You pages.
The other thing I?ve done with this is instead of making people download it when they?ve signed up for it, I actually have embedded the code on the page so they can actually read it right there on the page OR download it.? You can actually read this one online because there is quite big writing on it. ?
I don?t know, there?s something about the turning pages thing that I really like.? It?s another social media channel to new traffic.? Issuu.com, it?s completely free.? I?m always astounded that you can do so many of these things for free.
And now we will go into the Mastermind section of the call, for my Business Success Factory clients, which is all about accountability and strategy / planning, then straight into the Q&A where there is no such thing as a stupid question and anything goes; techie, time management, motivation, WordPress, marketing, money and finance, you name it, I?ll try and help. ?Let?s get started shall we?
